#OregontoDelaware Begins in a Few Hours!

It’s the night before the #OregontoDelaware ride begins! We are sitting in a motel room on Mount Shasta and thinking about tomorrow when Mark starts riding his bicycle across America from sea to shining sea.  We are both a bit pensive, given what’s going on right now in Orlando.  So as we prepare to hit the road, here are our thoughts.

MARK: The journey starts today (Monday, June 13) near Winchester Bay, Ore. Beyond that, though, Melody is joining me on this trek to provide support – and to bring her considerable storytelling skills into (mostly) rural America to spark a conversation about what makes us tick. How do we find joy in our lives? When should we chase a dream? What makes us feel alive? Maybe, during this 11-week (or so), 3,200-mile journey we’ll learn a few other things. Why do we hate? MELODY:  After a weekend in San Francisco screening my documentary The Summer Help at the San Francisco Doc Fest and visiting with some special friends (and even long lost relatives, too!)…it’s time.   I’ve heard Mark talk about this idea for five years and now it’s a reality. I am so proud of him for his commitment and determination and the way he is choosing to live his life. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so it’s important to live the life you want to live. As Muhammad Ali once said, “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”  I can’t wait for this new adventure to begin!

PS:  Watch this space for some short documentaries about the people we meet along the way! For now, I am excited to see Mark living one of his dreams!
